SUPERFLY HAIR BOUTIQUE By Safiyatou
About 18 years ago, what started out as a childhood dream became a precious reality for Baltimore’s own Safiyatou (Safi), who is a phenomenal hairstylist with “A” list credentials. Safi has experienced being the talk of the town when it involves the innovation and conception of hairstyles, hair trends, and hair artistry. She literally changed the exterior of the hair business in Baltimore and abroad thus establishing a level of expertise many aspiring hairstylists in this industry dream about achieving.
Safi started her journey in cosmetology about 18 years ago while attending the WesternVocationalTechnicalSchool in the Baltimore suburb known as Catonsville. She also attended Baltimore County Public Schools and during her tenure as a student, Safi realized her gift and true talent in life was the art of hair. After successfully earning her license in cosmetology, she began her career as a hairstylist in Baltimore. She worked for several local salons such as Marshall’s Classy Creations and La Unique, which were both very popular salons in Baltimore. She received accolades for her show stopping creations at local hair expos and hairstyling competitions namely the national acclaimed Golden Scissors Hair Show of Washington, DC. She has been privileged to work with many celebrities and her list of accomplishments continues to breed.
While working at Marshall’s Classy Creations in 1992, she finally came to the realization that hairstyling and hair care was her master craft. "I can never see myself doing anything other than hair. This craft and livelihood defines everything about me. The time, thought process and creativity I actually invest in one client's look literally draws the conclusion about a Safiyatou hair experience" says the acclaimed and accomplished stylist.
After enjoying much success and propensity afforded by this industry, Safi began to redirect her main focus by allowing her talent as a stylist to serve a meaningful purpose. “It is only sensible for your passion to serve a purpose…I have been in this hair industry for years and enjoyed the popularity, the fame, and the hype that accompanies a hairstylist working at the level of expertise like myself. Today, I understand my talent can touch the lives of others...It’s not just about being a hairstylist, but rather about being a hairstylist with a true passion,” says Safi. In the latter days of 2006, she ventured back into hosting her own hair shows and expos. However, these venues served as charity events whereby she and her team made zealous efforts to make substantial donations to various national and local charity organizations.
In 2008, her mission is clear, "I am on the brink of upgrading myself as a hair industry professional because I understand the depth of talent inside of me. I'm ready to show the world who Safi is and globally take them on a hair venture they never even knew existed."
